Israel's 60th at Matzuva

The kibbutz was festooned with flags, on houses, on public buildings, kindergartens and even on each "kalnoit" (golf buggies of veteran members). Everything was set for the community gathering on the lawn to the north of the dining room building.
At eight in the evening the entire community assembled to take part in the independence celebration. They were not disappointed - the evening was organized by the new members of Matzuva and the younger generation.
Anyone viewing Max's slide show can sense the feeling of community and renewal. What stands out is the numbers of young couples and children.
As mentioned, the event was organized by new members and some who have rented houses on the kibbutz prior to building their homes at Nofey Matzuva (the Matzuva community village).
The evening began with members who this year all celebrated their 60th birthdays (born the year the State of Israel was created). They lit torches and spoke briefly about themselves and their attachment to Matzuva and Israel. This was followed by an amusing rendition by Dan and Elisheva Carmi representing our veteran members. A "fire-writing" display was set up with the words "Israel 60 Years" and then lit by our teenagers. Afterwards the young Matzuva kids made an entrance with flags, flares and streamers and they then danced together with their parents. The Matzuva teenagers then opened up the various food and drink stalls and barbecues and the gathering then enjoyed a very impressive firework display set off from the dining room roof. Then the town of Shlomi let off its fireworks and this was followed by a chain of fireworks from most of the Western Galilee settlements. After the food came the dancing and singing.
In all a very enjoyable community celebration.
