Happy Birthday Matzuva - A Healthy 68!
Hi
Anyone seeing Max's photo coverage of Matzuva's 68th birthday celebration will
see encouraging signs of revival and growth.
A lot of thought and preparation went into the event organized by both members
and our newer members. The emphasis was on the new and the old. The 44 veteran
members of Matzuva each received a citation and gift and a special photographic
exhibition was held at the archives and museum building in front of the hall.
It showed photos of Matzuva from 1940, pictures of Ben-Gurion's visit as well
as Sophia Loren with kibbutz kids while filming the "Judith" movie at
Matzuva and of members and events from Matzuva's past.
For instance, pictures of the swimming pool that was dug out and built by members
after work.
The celebration was held in the hall and opened with a special greeting to all
the founders and veteran members. This was followed by all the Matzuva
kindergarten kids entering the hall from the rear waving Israeli flags and
performing various items on stage. There was a sing-in, a quiz and other
events. The hall seating 550 was full to overflowing and the courtyard at the
entrance was arranged with tables and chairs and there were food booths with
local Druze dishes and drinks. There was also an enormous selection of cakes
and cookies baked and donated by the ladies of Matzuva for everyone to enjoy.
During the week movies including "Judith" and the Matzuva Song
Festival were shown on the Matzuva internal channel.
Reaction to the birthday celebration was very positive and people came away
with a feeling of solidarity with the kibbutz, homage to the veterans and hopes
for continued renewal in the future.
Have a good week
Regards
